My Two Cents
If you loved Wildwood Dancing, then it's a given...you're going to fall in love with Paula in Cybele's Secret. Marillier manages to keep the same fairy-like creatures from Wildwood Dancing but completely changes the setting to something new and still exciting. Paula and her father are in Istanbul searching for a very expensive artifact. Women in Istanbul have even less privileges than in Paula's home country and book loving Paula quickly finds herself in way over her head, in love, duty and research. Can Paula figure out the secret (or series of puzzles)? And why won't her handsome guard kiss her already?! I loved this sequel and it was so fun to watch Paula grow as a person. I perhaps loved Wildwood Dancing just a smidgeon more (it's hard to beat Costi the frog and Jena) but this is still worth the read. I'm awarding Cybele's Secret 4.5 out of 5 stars. A must read for Marillier fans and fantasy nerds alike!
